What is Waterproofing?

Our main business is waterproofing. You may be wondering what this means and where it applies. Well, in simple terms, waterproofing is the act of making an object virtually impervious to water. At MA'ALIT Works, we do structural waterproofing using products (commonly referred to as membranes and coatings) to protect the contents of that structure, as well as make it protect the integrity of that structure.

Damp Control & Repair

Damp proofing in construction is a type of moisture control applied to building walls and floors to prevent moisture from passing into the interior spaces. Damp problems are among the most frequent issues encountered in homes and buildings.

Types of Damps

Rising Damp

What is Rising Damp & its Cause?

Rising damp is where ground moisture containing salts rises up a masonry wall. It occurs when the building fails to resist underground water from rising upwards. Technically, it results from capillary suction of moisture into porous materials such as brick, stone, or mortar.

It typically occurs where there is no Damp Proof Course (DPC), or where the DPC is damaged or bridged. Misdiagnosis is common, so it's vital to have a trained surveyor assess the situation.

How do I know I have Rising Damp?

  • Damp, musty smell
  • Persistent peeling of paint
  • Crumbling or salt-stained plaster
  • Chalking, discoloration, or staining
  • Black mould growth on walls
  • Algae and moulds on external walls
  • Walls and floors feel cold or damp to the touch

Always have these defects inspected by a specialist!

Why should you worry about Rising Damp?
Damp causes serious structural damage and can also lead to health issues — especially for young children and the elderly. It worsens respiratory and asthma conditions.

No need to worry — we’re experts in diagnosing and fixing rising damp in both residential and commercial properties. Contact us today and let us solve your rising damp problem.

Falling Damp

Falling damp is caused by downward water penetration from the top of porous walls. It often results from poor waterproofing at the coping, failed flashing, blocked gutters, or degraded joints. Dirt or moss buildup on stone or brick surfaces can also contribute.

Penetrating Damp

This occurs due to horizontal ingress of water through small gaps in walls or substrates. Causes include leaking pipes, poorly protected plaster or brick, AC drips, and roof overflows. Penetrating damp usually appears as localized patches.

Efflorescence

Efflorescence happens when soluble salts are carried to the surface by rising damp. As water evaporates, it leaves a white fluffy deposit. This is mostly an aesthetic concern — not structural — unless it becomes excessive.

Rooftop Waterproofing

Preserving your building's topmost shield against the elements

Rooftop Waterproofing Image

Roofs are not just visual features; they fulfill the crucial role of protection. Whether it's a classic flat roof or a dome roof, the rooftop stands as your building’s first line of defense.

Being the highest point, roofs face constant assault from rain, wind, sun, and temperature fluctuations — year after year. Without proper waterproofing, even small cracks or exposure can lead to costly leaks, structural damage, or mold growth.

Waterproofing your rooftop is not an option — it's a necessity for ensuring the long-term structural integrity of your building.
Types of Rooftop Waterproofing Technologies
  • Cementitious Waterproofing System
  • Membrane Waterproofing System
1. Cementitious Waterproofing

This method is popular due to its ease of application. It includes two subtypes:

  • Integral Waterproofing: The waterproofing compound is mixed directly into the concrete mix for added resistance.
  • Liquid Waterproofing Membrane: A thin coating that forms a rubber-like waterproof layer on the roof surface. It's flexible and seamless.
2. Membrane Waterproofing

This involves laying sheets of waterproofing membranes over the roof, often reinforced with bitumen or polymers. These are ideal for flat roofs and high-risk leak zones, providing strong water resistance and longevity.

Basement Waterproofing

Restore your basement to a dry, healthy, and usable space

Positive Side Basement Waterproofing

Have you noticed signs of water damage in your basement? MA'ALIT Works has the solution. We solve all kinds of wet basement problems like leaks, humidity and musty smells — giving you a dry and healthy space you can use again.

Types of Basement Waterproofing
  • Negative Side Waterproofing System
  • Positive Side Waterproofing System
Negative Side Basement Waterproofing

This method involves applying waterproofing treatment from inside the structure — where there's no access to the outside retaining wall. While it doesn’t prevent water from entering the wall, it offers cost-effectiveness and easy access for future repairs.

We deliver this tricky method using a robust system, highly experienced experts, and world-renowned waterproofing products — ensuring unmatched credibility and workmanship.

Positive Side Basement Waterproofing

This is applied to the exterior face of the retaining wall — the side directly in contact with water. If accessible, it is always preferred because it stops water before it even touches your walls. It’s effective, affordable, and protects the structure from corrosive soil chemicals.

Other Basement Waterproofing Technologies

We also use specialized techniques like French drain installation to relieve underground water pressure. Basement waterproofing protects against moisture, gas leaks, and foundation distress in all below-grade structures.

Don't ignore damp basements!
They lead to mildew, mold, bacteria, and serious health risks. Property damage and storage loss are just the beginning.

We’ll help you eliminate moisture problems and get back that valuable space — giving you a healthier home and higher property value.

Concrete Water Tank Waterproofing

Protecting your water storage structures from leaks, cracks, and contamination

Tank Image 1
Tank Image 2
Tank Image 3

Masonry and concrete water tanks are designed to store water safely, without leakage. However, when leaks or contaminants begin to breach the tank walls, the consequences can be devastating.

The average lifespan of a concrete tank is 10–15 years. During this time, the internal walls must resist not only constant hydrostatic pressure but also exposure to chlorine and other chemicals — all of which weaken the surface.

Key Weak Points of Water Tanks:
  • Cold joints
  • Failing water stops
  • Penetrations and pipe inlets
  • Shrinkage cracks
  • Internal voids within concrete walls

These weaknesses allow seepage, which promotes the growth of algae, bacteria, and fungus. Over time, this not only pollutes your water but also threatens the structural integrity of the tank itself.

That’s why water tank waterproofing is crucial.
It's about keeping water clean, the tank structure intact, and extending its usable lifespan.

The best way to avoid future problems is to select and install a proven waterproofing system tailored to your specific tank type — underground or above-ground.

MA'ALIT Works specializes in comprehensive water tank waterproofing services. Whether new or existing, we’ll protect your concrete or masonry tanks from leaks and deterioration — ensuring safety and durability.
